Dear Doug - I have known you for 54 years - since you and Hew met at SRI, soon after you both arrived there. You and Hew were kindred spirits and shared your ideas, frustrations, aspirations and respect for each other - it was a deep and enduring friendship.  What followed was a family friendship that included Ballard and me and all of our children; it was an important chapter in the lives of the Cranes and the Engelbarts.  Those years hold many good memories for me......And time marches on.... You should be proud of your legacy.  You have a wonderful family who loves you;  you are a lucky man.  I wish you a very happy 85th birthday.    Fondly, Sue
